DWIMD: Part 2

this is what happened so far and here is the epilogue of this series.

So, I awaited couple of days for a refund from webortel.com but as expected, no refund, mail or whatsoever. Then I escalated the dispute into claim. Paypal asked me to wait for couple of days till they finish off with their investigation. So I did. In the meantime http://www.webortel.com vanished from internet. After 3 days I received a mail from Paypal and here is what it said:

Claims must be for payments for tangible, physical goods that can be shipped, and not all other payments, such as payments for intangibles, for services or for licenses and other access to digital content.

And that basically ended my hope of getting a fair justice. I’m not sorry for $4. I’m upset because I got scammed! and that guy is roaming around, free. Today I was doing some search on webortel (what I should have done before buying the domain). Here is what I found on a popular forum:

Well, Webortel is run by the biggest hacker in town called mawali, he had this directi account from 2 years with $20,000 Balance in it. And started selling domains for $4. He has earned $10,000 in just 3 weeks from webortel.com, and is happy by scamming you people. And also, You will not get your domains back

So, next time you decide to buy a domain, do a little research on the company. A simple google search will give you plenty of information. Try to call up their business line to see if it’s a valid number. If the price is unusually low then be aware, it could be a scam.

Discover independent music

I know people who have GBs of music. No, not 5 or 10 GB; 100s of GBs of music. I bet they never played half of them. Even if they start playing now, the playlist won’t finish in next couple of decades. I’m strongly against the idea of collecting music which I’d never play. Instead, I keep whatever I like and delete rest. No wonder I have just ~700 mp3s i.e., about 3GB. Yep, surprising I know. My entire music collection is just 700 mp3s. All of them neatly organized, tagged with album art and lyrics.

And what’s more surprising is that, half of them are free! Nope, its not like I got them for free (i.e., illegally), Its ‘free’ free. You can get them free, and share them free without any restrictions, DRM or whatsoever and its legal. Welcome to the world of free music. Let me help you to discover some independent music.

Ubuntu: Worst game ever!

“I have been using computers for well over 4 years now and can say that this was one of the worst games I had ever purchased. For one, in order to even install the game you have to completely ERASE ALL YOUR DATA! I did not know this when I installed and lost almost all of my hotmail messages. Second, I was really suprised that this did not run on my wife’s apple macintosh. In this day and age, is it really acceptable that software only run on dell computers, but not on apple or even IBM’s? Well, I always try to look at the glass half full, so I continued installed and found that not only had my start menu had moved to the top, but all my programs had been moved around. I couldn’t even find the “Notepad” word processor. I finally gave up when I couldn’t find limewire or internet explorer installed anywhere, so I gave up and threw my computer away and bought a brand new laptop instead.”

OK, before you bombard me with replies, this is NOT my review. This one is by some idiot (or by someone who was being funny) on Amazon. If you don’t believe me then take a look by yourself.

“Worst OS”? acceptable. BUT “Worst game”!? A person with 4 years of computing experience can’t differentiate between OS and game? What was he thinking before buying the product at the first place? Surprisingly 122 of 389 people found the review helpful.. :O Well, I found that review to be helpful too in a way that it made my day.. :p
